Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a condition which light is unable to brought to a single focus. It often occurs with nearsightdedness and farsightedness,

Typically it is caused by the front of your eye, the cornea, being oval (like a football) instead of round (like a basketball) and not allowing light to focus properly on your retina. To correct this your eye doctor will prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses that have two different prescriptions in each eye. For instance your prescription in one eye may look like -2.00 -1.00 x180, this means you have 2.00 dipoters of spherical power and 1.00 diopter of astigmatism at axis 180.

In some cases you may have lenticular astigmatism, which means your cornea is perfectly round but your lens (inside your eye) is oval.

Astigmatism usually does not get worse, only having regualar eye exams can you be sure.
