The University Vision Clinic offers a full range of ophthalmic services including comprehensive vision examinations, treatment of eye diseases and co-management of eye surgeries to the fitting of difficult contact lens cases and eyewear tailored to your individual appearance and occupational needs. We offer contact lens for dry eyes, pediatric myopia, toric, and multifocal.
Disposable Soft Contact Lenses
Two Week and Monthly Disposable Lenses: The most common lens material we currently is silicone based. Silicone is a very oxygen permeable and therefore is healthier for your cornea. We carry all brands, including Acuvue, Biofinity, Airoptix to name a few.
Gas-Permeable Contact Lenses
These lenses, sometimes called gas-perm, have been around for many years. They are not the old fashioned “hard” lenses, which were not breathable and could cause long term corneal re-shaping problems. Current gas-permeable lenses are made of very breathable material.
Astigmatism Contact Lenses
Astigmatism means there is an irregular cornea or internal lens. Adequate correction requires two different prescriptions for each eye. Corneal astigmatism, the most common type, resulting in two different curvatures. Lenticular astigmatism has a round cornea but the internal lens has two different curvatures.
Bifocal/Multifocal Contact Lenses
A multifocal lens has many different powers; distance, intermediate and near (with a whole lot in between). All bifocal soft lenses are in truth, multifocals. Gas-Permeable contact lenses can be either bifocal or multifocal.
Keratoconus Contact Lenses
The corneal is normally a round shape, keratoconus distorts the cornea and a cone like bulge develops. When this happens it can impair vision, after a certain point, glasses will not help with. Specially designed gas-permeable contact lenses are the proffered choice to help patients see clearly with keratoconus.
